Decided to give Forza 6: Apex a try, it being free and all. There’s a lot of content there for what’s basically a demo. Decent variety of cars, several tracks with weather and layout variations, and a handful of events to run through in addition to free play.

The rain mode is probably my favorite part of the game. Water pools on the track and will mercilessly throw you into a wall if you don’t respect it. Rain drops collect on windshields and are thrown across them as g-forces change. It’s beautiful.

I could really use a wheel set up. It’s frustrating to attempt fine modulation of steering and brakes with a controller. That probably won’t happen before there’s a full Forza Motorsport available for PC, though.

You know what else is free right now? Dirt 3 on Humble Bundle. Its a fun, if arcade y Rally game. I picked it up earlier today, but it is only free for the next 18 hours.

I loved FM6:Apex when it came out, and I’m glad to see it performs better on my hardware a few months down the road. The only major gripe I had with it was the lack of content, for obvious reasons, and the fact I couldn’t stand the rain/wet weather modes at all. Coming from Project CARS where it has dynamic weather and track surfacing, FM6's system just felt... off. In the dry I loved the handling, but step into the endurance racing modes Im used to and it just never clicked. Night racing was among my favourite features as well, shame there weren’t more tracks to show it off on.

FM6:Apex was one of those rare games where you could actually do pretty decently on a controller. Granted when it launched there was no wheel support at all, but at the time the FFB on a gamepad was much better than Assetto Corsa or even Project CARS. It’s a shame Microsoft are trying to shove $17 worth of DLC down our throats for those who still yearn for Apex, because honestly I don’t see a point given the Nurburgring is available on no less than 5 other games on PC and the cars are mostly available in other games as well.

You’d think that they’d be putting more effort into fixing FH3 instead of sucking their customers dry.

I’ve had it since late summer. At 53 medals now. Have almost every car in the game now, just a few to go. Only bought 1 early. The spotlite event section that updated last week has some events that can’t be accessed yet. Whats a shocker is the end date on those are in 2020. Guess that means they are keeping this game in the plans for a lot of future development. I’m hoping they open the store sometime so PC users can purchase car packs or additional tracks.
